Sonnet is finished

I know the last time I posted I said I was going to make a cotton hoody next. Well, the Finger Lakes Fiber Arts Festival sort of changed my mind about that. I found a beautiful mini boucle mohair that was just begging to be a sideways knit cardigan. I found Sonnet on Knitty and thought it would work out well. And it did! My gauge was 3.25 stitches to the inch on size 10 1/2 needles. This thing went fast. I finished knitting it in just over 2 weeks.

When I tried it on, I did not like the scoop neck. It was too low for me. So I decided to pick up stitches around the neckline and knit a yoke. I did a few decrease rows and it came out nice. I also decided to pick up stitches and knit on a band at the hem and a band on each side. I like how that finished it off a bit. Here are a couple of pics. It is hard to see where I added onto the pattern but that must be a good thing because it looks like it belongs there :-)

Don't ask me why my pants look funny...I have no idea why they look like they are twisted.

Here is a close up of the buttons I used and you can really see the colors in the yarn in this pic.

So next I think will really be the cotton hoody. I am swatching for it now. I am using Blue Skys Organic Cotton in an ecru shade. I may also try swatching for a Mason Dixon baby Kimono...my SIL is expecting baby #2 and I have some SWTC Bamboo in my stash that I wanted to see if I could get gauge with.

I will have lots of time for knitting as I am having surgery again. On November 7th, I will have a very large cyst removed from my left ovary. It is 10 cm that is 4 inches!...which all good knitters know is the size of a swatch! Seriously, when they found it almost 2 months ago it was that big and has probably grown more. I won't know the extent of the surgery until I wake up. My dr won't know until she gets inside what really needs to be done besides removing the cyst and the ovary. I may lose the other ovary as well and the cyst may be attached to my bladder which could make things tricky. And she is sure there is scar tissue to remove from my appendectomy 33 years ago and my c section 16 years ago. I thought after my neck surgery 2 years ago I was done with having surgery. This will make surgery #12 in my lifetime! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough indeed!

Your cyst is the size of a swatch - that's pretty big! Assuming you knit swatches at all. When I had my surgery last summer, my tumor was the size of a ball of yarn (47 grams). My doctors thought it was odd that I used knitting to compare the size - can I show them this post so they know I'm not the only one???

:P

Good luck!

Sure, show them my post so they can know all knitters are slightly nuts. I happened to be looking at a new pattern and checking the guage when I noticed X stitches over 10cm and thought Hey...so that's how big it is. I also wrapped a tape measure around my fist and it is about 10 cm...to big to think about lol

Good luck with your surgery! Just think: you've made it so well through 11 that an even dozen can't beat ya! (And thanks for helping me with blogger coding back in the day -- I'm embarrassed to say I haven't updated in a long while, but I will soon.)

Lovely beautiful wonderful cardi! I love how seeing bloggers' interpretations of patterns gets me excited about knitting them myself. Sonnet didn't appeal to me before. And those BUTTONS, whoo baby! :)

Well thank you for asking about me.. I hope YOU are doing well.. The size of the cyst makes my eyes get huge, because you're right.. I know exactly how big that is.

I'm doing fine though.. and I finnally posted on my blog.. lol.
