My first Jaywalkers

I finished my first pair of Jaywalkers. I know, I know, I am extremely late to the Jaywalker party. I don't particularly like making socks. This makes my third pair ever. I decided to make a pair of socks to take with me when hubby and I flew to Pensacola Beach last week. Nice and portable, they breezed through airport security in Syracuse and on the way home from Pensacola. They did help to keep my mind some what off the fact that I was flying thousands of feet above the earth and had absolutely no control over what might happen. (Oh, did I mention that I am afraid of flying but for some reason decided not to take Valium for this trip? I had it with me but just didn't take it.)

While I was in Pensacola I bought a skein of Sockotta in color 5616 for another pair of Jaywalkers. The socks reminded me of Pensacola...a lot of the houses being built are pink, or orange,or yellow. I am not sure if I want to do the Jaywalker pattern again. I am not wild about the cuff. I would definatly make the ribbed portion of the cuff longer. I have been thinking of making one of the several other chevron patterns that are available on the net. The only reason I would do the Jaywalker patter again over a different chevron patter, is I know the Jaywalker pattern fits my fat, long feet :-)

In other knitting news, I cast on for this lace sweater in the current issue of knitters:

I am using Crystal Palace Kid Merino in a very pale blue. It is almost white, it is so pale. I only have a couple of inches done because my Denise needles are driving me nuts. The kid merino (which is very similar to Kid Silk Haze) is sticking the cords and the needles tips are not just sharp enough. So...big justification here...I bought the Knitpicks Options set. I have a couple cords and needle tips already and think they will work fine for the lace. Plus, I had a rebate in the form of a pre paid credit card so I figured, why not use it on line. :-)

Next up is to finish the baby blanket I started for my sister in law. The baby will be here on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend...I am about half done...guess I better get knitting. And after the baby blanket will be the pinwheel sweater from Elann in teal colored Lara:

So much to knit, so little time

Speaking of time... At a recent Joint Technology Coordinator's meeting, Edutech told us about a community on the web called Second Life. It is a virtual community, sort of like the Sims but H_U_G_E!!! I went and created an account and started looking around. It is pretty cool. One of the first people I 'met' was a knitter! In her Second Life world, she has a knitting group and makes knitting needles...how cool is that. In her Real Life world, she has a blog which you can read here : Yarn Miracle
Second Life is pretty cool, but I can see how it would serously cut into my knitting time... LOL

Well, that is all for now...I have a baby blanket to finish!

Cool socks. I've been meaning to make a pair, too. I love the results with such a simple pattern. How many stitches did you use?

Thanks nikki...
I made the larger size of the regular pattern 84 stitches. I have wide feet and fairly heavy ankles and calves. I orginally cast on for the extended size of the pattern but soon realized it was too big.

i am about to cast on for my second pair, this time with sockotta yarn. I may have to make the larger size with this yarn...

I love your socks! I have the Knitpicks needles and like them very much, unless I'm knitting with "splitty" yarn, and then the needles are too pointy.

Pensacola is one of my favorite airports - I like flying in over the water. The Sockotta is a great souvenir yarn for the beach - I hadn't thought about picking yarns in colors reminiscent of the areas where they were acquired! But I love that idea.

The Jaywalkers look great. I wouldn't worry about being late in the game. I still plan to knit Cheesylove and that pattern was published YEARS ago.

Looking forward to seeing your blanket and especially the pinwheel sweater. I like the with the crocheted edge better than the original but think both versions would be a fun knit.

So okay, I'm dying to get in on this Second Life thing, because it sounds just like my kinda game and I've been trying to find a new game this week, and the blasted thing won't let me register! It's been telling me "try back in a few minutes" for almost three hours now!!!
