Finally, an update

It's been a while again. I just hate it when life gets in the way of knitting and blogging! :-)

First, I organized my stash, and I am embarassed at the amount of yarn I have. I bought these cubes from Target
They came six cubes to a pack and I bought 2 packs, so I have a total of 12 cubes. I thought I would have lots of empty cubes once I got done sorting my yarn...well, it was a nice thought.

This is what I ended up with. Each cube is at least partially full. I tried to organize based on yarn weight. I have a LOT of worsted, which takes up the middle row of this photo. I also seem to have a lot of novelty stuff that I am not sure I will use, but am not ready to part with it yet. I tossed a whole garbage bag of acrylic stuff that I know I won't use.

I finally finished the baby blanket. The baby, my neice Lauren Elizabeth, arrived almost 2 weeks ago. Here she is here:

She wasn't due to arrive until this past Friday, but she had plans of her own. I had planned the finishing of the blanket almost to the minute so I can't really say I am late...she was early! :-)

Here is a close and a shot of the whole blanket:

I am not sure why the left edge look ruffly in that picture. It really doesn't in real like. I am going to wash and dry it tomorrow and hope that it straightens out. If anyone is wondering, this is sort of my own design. I based it loosely on the Lady Eleanor pattern from Scarf Style. I cast on a multiple of 8 that I thought was wide enough for the blanket and just followed the basic entrelac instructions. I can't remember exactly how many I cast on. Somewhere along the way I decided I had cast on too many so I made the cast on edge the long edge and just continued until I thought it was long enough. I did a few rows of double crochet along the edges because the edges don't line up neatly in enterlac. And the yarn is Bernat baby softee acrylic. Easy wash and dry for a new mom!

So now, I can get back to the lace sweater from Knitter's and maybe, just maybe, cast on for either my Pensacola socks (jaywalkers #2) or the pinwheel sweater from Elann.

The cubes are great! You can see all your yarn at one time (I have to dig for mine although I did use clear totes). It's pretty to look at too (and we all know yarn is made to be decorative when it isn't being used).

The baby blanket looks great!

I agree with Emily. I think yarn displayed openly adds so much color to a room.

Congrats on the birth of your nieces. The blanket is a great gift. It's always nice to receive something after the baby is born.
