Second Life and Real Life come together

I'm not sure how many of you know about Second Life but it is a pretty cool place. Edutech told us about it an a Joint Technology Coordinator's meeting. I checked it out thinking an online world would not be my thing. Boy was I wrong.

I spend so much time in Second Life that it feels like my first life sometimes. I have met some great people. One of the first people I met has become a very dear friend to me. He is sweet and kind and has the sweetest girlfriend in SL.

The thing that got me hooked on SL is the building. You can build all sorts of things and you can make clothes. i have been struggling with the clothes because I am not that familiar with photoshop. I finally got that figured out today. One thing I wanted to do is take some of my knitted items and use the textures to recreate the clothing in SL. Here is what I came up with today:

First the sweater in Second life

and the sweater in RL
It is a little hard to see the Second Life picture, but I think it turned out pretty good. I didn't take the time to add the collar or the button band but I probably could have if I wanted to spend the extra time. THis was basically to see if I could do it. (and before you ask, yes, that is "me" in SecondLife. My name is Reno Katscher and I am 20 years younger and 40 lbs lighter than me in RL:-)

In real life knitting..I am still working on the the pinwheel sweater. I thought it was big enough and divided for the sleeves and tried it on. I didn't like the fit so I put it back on the needles and am continue increasing. Thank god for life lines! I am also working on another pair of socks. I am making the broadripple pattern from Knitty, in a color of Fixation that can only be called clown vomit! I don't know what I was thinking when I picked it up other than my LYS only had those two balls left. Ad the sock progresses, it looks more like a hot air balloon, but in the beginning it looked like clown vomit....

So...if any of you make it to SL, look me up...Reno Katscher....

Reno (Kim), you have made so much progress in SL and have done some pretty amazing builds. You impress me more with each new goodie!

Yes... we have become very good SL friends and I enjoy visiting with you. I think I'll leave it to you to tell the story of how we met in SL!

Great job on the sweater... both RL and SL!

Hi Semaj!
I didn't know you actually read my blog...I think we should leave the story of how we met in the dark....we wouldn't want everyone to know how sly you were (and how naive I was lol)...

HI thanks for replying.
When I leave it as is, the sock, sweater, etc.,images do not appear on my blog

then you will have to save the images to your server or flikr and then link to them there. I am not sure why they are not showing up...

I just looked at your code. It looks like you are missing this block of code after where the url to your images is:

var amtWhite = 50 - (50*(.01*percent));
var whichFill = wipColor;

if(amtWhite == 0) {
whichFill = foColor;

It looks like you may have cut and pasted too much at one time :-) you have the "whichfill-focolor; part but not what is before it...

Kim thank you so much for all of your help. For right now I am going to try just normal progress bars. Once I understand those, I will come back to yours, because they are my favorite!
