Christmas knitting

Ok, I admit it, I am selfish! I don't usually knit for other people, because, let's face it, no one appreciates our hardwork more than us, right? Well, I was cruising the net, reading the KR Forums and someone mentioned that MagKnits had their winter issue up. So I cruised on over there and this issue is pretty nice. There are a couple of things I would knit for myself. Then I spied Counterpoint! I thought it was neat because I used to play the piano but didn't feel like making it for myself. The scarf continued to be on my mind and then sometime in the night I thought "I drew my MIL's name for Christmas! She has played piano and organ for years at church! I can knit Counterpoint for her!"

Which is exactly what I am doing. I zipped over to my favorite LYS and picked up a skein of black and a skein of ivory Encore. The orginal pattern was written for Cascased 220 but my LYS didn't have both black and white in stock and I am not sure if my MIL is sensitive to wool, so I opted for the Encore. And I chose ivory instead of white because piano keys are made from ivory, right? (at least they used to be.

So here is the beginning of Counterpoint.

I have finished one repeat of the pattern. At first I thought I had messed up, until I realized that each black key is two pattern rows wide. I just love illusion knitting...don't you?

Lol... responding to the spam comments : P

That is a really neat scarf.. I happen to know a guy that might just think it was cool... or... possibly lame.. but he's picky like that.. lol. I wish I could see it in person though to see the illusion part of it.. it sounds neat! (Can you tell I've never knit illusion before?)

Glad to see you're doing well too : ) Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

Can you tell I was bored? lol

My MIL loved the scarf, she put it on as soon as she unwrapped it and wore it all day. The illusion is really cool. Just looking at her wearing it, it just looks like alternating black and white stripes. When she looks down the length of it she can see the piano keys.

I have seen both a snowflake and a candy corn illusion pattern...they would be quick and easy as a dishcloth to try out the illusion.
